[00:48:43] <iceeey> sueastside, any screenshots of tree town yet? :)
[00:52:30] <sueastside> iceeey: nothing new on tree town, im a bit stuck with the concept for the houses, so brainstorming on that while im working on my secret project :)
[00:53:11] <iceeey> ok
[00:53:25] <iceeey> not gonna make them just round hut kind of things?
[00:54:16] <sueastside> latest idea was this http://hellemans.cyanox.nl/hell/screenshots/canopy%20town/houseconcept2.JPG (dont mind the textures)
[00:54:47] <iceeey> hm not bad
[00:54:55] <sueastside> and then a cluster of these things came to mind, so multiple of such thingies connected would be 1 house....
[00:55:03] <iceeey> yeah
[00:55:09] <iceeey> it definitely needs some variation
[00:55:34] <iceeey> and try and go for something that blends in with the surroundings
[00:55:40] <iceeey> e.g. make it appear natural
[00:57:20] <sueastside> how do you mean? (a manmade structure will always stand out i guess...)
[01:02:16] <sueastside> using only materials that are present in that forest, is a given....
[01:03:05] <iceeey> well not all trees are alike
[01:03:39] <iceeey> so you build the house into the shape of the tree
[01:04:07] <iceeey> I'm trying to find some good pictures
[01:19:04] <iceeey> http://www.harald-melcher.de/images/4IMG0057.jpg http://www.papuatrekking.com/uploads/images/fotky/Papua_Korowai_tree_people_Vacha%20(1).JPG http://www.papuatrekking.com/uploads/images/fotky/Papua_tree_people_Korowai%20(1).JPG
[01:19:19] <iceeey> those are all of tree houses built by Korowai tribe of Java
[01:22:00] <sueastside> neat, although still dont know what you mean with blend, to me they still stand out from their surroundings....
[01:24:32] <iceeey> yeah, couldn't really find a good example
[01:24:42] <iceeey> just minimal modifications to the trees
[01:26:35] <sueastside> what would be a modification? sawed off branches?
[01:26:54] <iceeey> mm.. probably not
[01:27:05] <iceeey> I'm thinking more of adding stuff
[01:28:46] <sueastside> you mean to build the residence with as little studs and support possible only using branches?
[01:28:53] <iceeey> yeah, mostly
[01:28:56] <iceeey> and ropes
[01:29:12] <iceeey> but I'm thinking specifically about trees that have some peculiarity
[01:29:18] <iceeey> like large trunks
[01:29:38] <iceeey> really curvy limbs
[01:29:47] <iceeey> holes
[01:34:31] <sueastside> so exploiting peculiarities, hmmm....
[01:35:40] <sueastside> http://www.buickclub.org/bde/Weird%20Tree.jpg nice support for a passing bridge :)
[01:36:59] <iceeey> hm
[01:37:19] <iceeey> http://www.arborsmith.com/world_tour.html
[01:37:37] <iceeey> pertaining to how people can modify trees without cutting (at least that's what i gathered)
[01:38:23] <iceeey> i like the grow your own boat tree
[01:38:38] <sueastside> heh
[01:41:28] <iceeey> so imagine that the tree people live in a forest with lots of weird trees and they also shape their own trees for particular purposes (not to the same extent in that link, but still somewhat), e.g. bridge supports (good idea :P), storage areas, city walls? (something more dense than one tree of course), aqueduct? (redirecting water to some central store or so?)
[01:41:56] <iceeey> i mean I'd like to think that they found a particular spot that they creatively tailored to their needs
[01:42:04] <iceeey> not purely shaping stuff
[01:42:30] <sueastside> yeah good thinking...
[01:47:50] <iceeey> hm, another thought: tree with a lot of branches as a ladder
[01:49:53] <iceeey> or even more obviously a ladder: http://www.arborsmith.com/ladder_tree1.jpg lol
[01:50:55] <sueastside> :)
